Crypto Buzz: “quantum-proof” security returns to the Bitcoin and blockchain debate

A topic that is likely to become increasingly important is returning to crypto technology discussions: making blockchains more resistant to future quantum computers. On September 13, CoinDesk published comments from MIT professor Muriel Médard, co-founder of Optimum, who argued that protecting blockchains does not necessarily require quantum computers themselves. Classical mathematical and cryptographic tools can already contribute to building more robust systems. The quantum-security question is especially relevant to Bitcoin, Ethereum and infrastructure that depends on public-key cryptography. The discussion does not mean that a quantum computer exists today that can suddenly break the leading blockchains.
