Crypto News | India tests its first tokenized bond
India is preparing its first national pilot for tokenized corporate bonds in September. The initial issuance is expected to be carried out by state-owned REC and to use blockchain-based digital infrastructure, with both the central bank and the market regulator involved.
Why it matters
Here, blockchain is not being used to create a new speculative cryptocurrency. Instead, it is being used to record ownership, transfer, and settlement of a traditional financial instrument. It is one of the clearest examples of real-world asset tokenization.
The Crypto Mentor view
Tokenization can make some processes faster, but it does not automatically change the economic risk of the underlying security. A tokenized bond is still, first and foremost, a bond: investors need to understand the issuer, yield, maturity, and credit risk.
