“Bunker Mode”: could AI really threaten crypto wallet keys?
Ethereum researcher Justin Drake has sparked debate with the phrase “bunker mode,” describing a precautionary scenario in which major crypto holders prepare for the possibility that future AI advances could weaken some cryptographic systems.
What is actually true today
No practical technique has been demonstrated in which a normal AI system can recover a Bitcoin or Ethereum private key from a public key. The discussion is therefore about a potential future risk, not a proven attack available today.
Why beginners should care
This is a good example of the difference between a demonstrated vulnerability and a hypothetical scenario. In crypto, highly technical warnings can quickly turn into panic on social media.
The most important rule
Do not rush to move funds because someone online says there is an emergency. Fake urgency is one of the oldest scam tactics. Verify the source first, then decide.
