Crypto Buzz: Blur shuts its front end after NFT volumes collapse
Blur, one of the largest NFT marketplaces of the previous market cycle, will retire the blur.io front end on November 12, 2026. On the same date, its NFT lending protocol Blend will stop matching new loan requests.
The shutdown affects the web interface, not the underlying smart contracts. The on-chain marketplace will remain active on Ethereum, and BLUR token holders will retain control over the protocol mechanism that can activate fees.
For Blend, borrowers have until November 12 to repay loans or allow them to default. Blur says it will provide a separate withdrawal tool after the deadline for assets still held in the service.
The market trend behind the story is the contraction in NFT activity. DefiLlama data cited by CoinDesk shows Blur monthly volume falling from about $1.43 billion in March 2023 to under $7 million in March 2026, a decline of more than 99.5%. At its peak, Blur had accounted for more than 70% of Ethereum NFT trading volume.
BLUR fell more than 20% after the announcement. That is a market reaction, not a reliable measure of the protocol's future. Blur also did not officially attribute the front-end shutdown to operating losses, so treating the decision as proof of unprofitability would be an inference.
