Crypto Buzz | A $120 Bitcoin Wallet Wakes Up After Nearly 15 Years
Between late August and early September, several Bitcoin wallets that had been inactive for more than a decade started moving funds again. One of the most curious cases involved 40 BTC untouched since November 2011.
From about $120 to more than $3 million
According to Decrypt, citing Galaxy Research monitoring, those 40 BTC had an average acquisition price near $3 per Bitcoin—about $120 in total. At the time of the movement, they were worth roughly $3.09 million.
But a transfer does not mean a sale
The blockchain shows that the Bitcoin moved, but it does not automatically explain why. The owner may have changed custody, consolidated wallets, moved funds for personal reasons or sold. In another reactivated wallet, 6.78 BTC were sent to Coinbase, which can suggest a possible sale, but that cannot be generalized to every movement.
Crypto Mentor Buzz
It is a remarkable snapshot of Bitcoin history, not a promise about the future. The fact that a 2011 purchase produced an extraordinary result does not mean the same will happen with Bitcoin—or any other cryptocurrency—bought today.
