Wallets and seed phrases: security comes before returns
Updated: Sep 9
In crypto, you can choose an excellent project and still lose everything because of a security mistake. That is why, at Crypto Mentor, protection comes before performance.
What a wallet really is
A wallet does not physically contain cryptocurrency. It stores or manages the keys that allow you to control assets on a blockchain. Whoever controls the keys controls the funds.
A seed phrase is not just another password
A seed phrase is the master backup that can restore access to a wallet. If someone gets it, they may be able to take control of the funds. No legitimate service should ask you for it through a message, email, or private support conversation.
Do not photograph your seed phrase or store it in the cloud.
Never send it through chat, email, or online forms.
Always verify the destination address before confirming a transaction.
Enable two-factor authentication on exchange accounts.
For larger amounts, consider custody solutions appropriate to your level of experience.
In crypto, protecting what you already own is more important than chasing the next gain.
